The story and principles behind WebDevExtension

This is the story behind WebDevExtension. Almost every business, creator, and community is expected to have a website, yet building one still asks for skills and time that most people don’t have, so we set out to make the first version of a website as easy as describing it.

Our story: the problem we set out to solve

Traditional ways of making a site front-load the hardest decisions. You choose a platform, browse hundreds of templates, work out how a page builder thinks, and then face empty text boxes that need to be filled with words about your own business. Plenty of good ideas stall somewhere in that process, long before a single page goes live.

We noticed that people rarely struggle to explain what they want. Ask a bakery owner, a photographer, or a consultant to describe their ideal website and you’ll hear a clear brief within a minute. The struggle starts when that brief has to be translated into layouts, styles, and code.

WebDevExtension does that translation. You describe the site, the AI produces a complete draft, and you spend your energy improving something real instead of building from nothing.

The principles we build on

Four principles shape every decision we make about the product.

  • Your own words are the best starting point

A short description written by the person who knows the business carries more useful information than any template. The builder is designed to listen to it.

  • AI should draft and people should decide

The AI handles the heavy lifting of a first version. Every word, color, and section stays editable, because you are the one who knows what is right.

  • Structure matters as much as looks

A site that looks good but is hard to navigate fails its visitors. We care about clear page purposes, logical headings, and navigation that makes sense.

  • Tools should meet you where you work

You already spend your day in a browser. Building the site there, in a panel beside your research and references, removes one more app from the process.

Who we build for

WebDevExtension is for people who need a website to do a job: the owner of a small shop who wants customers to find opening hours, the freelancer who needs a portfolio before a client meeting, the organizer who has a workshop to fill next month.

It is also for professionals who build sites for others. Agencies and developers use a generated draft to move from client brief to first review quickly, then apply their own craft to the details. You can see the range of projects on our website types page.

How we treat your information

Trust is part of the product. Account passwords are stored only as one-way hashes, repeated failed sign-ins are temporarily blocked, and our database is not reachable from the public web. We collect the information needed to run your account and answer your messages, and we explain exactly what that is in our privacy policy.
